Close to 200 residents and civic and business leaders converged on the TOP Trails park Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, to celebrate the official groundbreaking for the complex. The cooperative effort between officials from the cities of Lincoln and Talladega, state and federal government, chambers of commerce, and organizations like Cheaha Trail Riders is expected to bring thousands of people to the area and generate millions of dollars in revenue for the region.
The 15-year plan is already underway, with park guests using the off-highway-vehicle trails on a daily basis. The park will eventually encompass a wide range of outdoor activities, including everything from horseback riding to camping and competition shooting and archery ranges.
State and federal officials lauded the project, holding it up as an example of what can be accomplished when government, businesses and private citizens work together.
